Description

This position provides recreational activities on the continuing complex care unit to provide stimulation and engagement to admitted patients, as a part of the rehabilitation team.

The Recreation Therapist supports patient engagement and well-being by planning and delivering therapeutic and leisure-based activities that enhances quality of life and promotes physical, emotional, social, and cognitive functioning for admitted patients on the continuing complex care unit. This position functions as part of the Rehabilitation team.

    Qualifications

    • One (1) year of experience working in healthcare, rehabilitation, social services, or in long-term care, applicants with other combinations of applicable experience and education may be considered
    • Post-secondary education in Recreation Therapy, Kinesiology, Social Services, Leisure Studies, or an applicable/related field
    • Registration with applicable regulatory body dependent on education is preferred
    • Current Certification in BLS and demonstrated ongoing competence through annual re-certification
    • Demonstrated strong communication and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to work effectively independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team
    • Ability to work with individuals at a variety of levels and experiencing different challenges
    • Demonstrated ability to prioritize duties/projects, multi-task, and work independently in a fast-paced environment with high demand
    • Strong judgment and ability to work with patients in an understanding, sensitive and compassionate manner
    • Strong organizational skills
    • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position
