ABOUT THE ROLE


St. Joseph's Care Group - High Support Housing is seeking a Leisure Life Skills Instructor. The successful applicant will be a member of an interdisciplinary team. They will be responsible for leading the development organization and implementation of the leisure life program throughout High Support. They will also participate in individualized Wellness Planning meetings to assist people in attaining an optimal level of whole-person health independence and personal recovery.

 - Degree/Diploma in Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation and Leisure Studies with therapeutic recreation course content (Therapeutic Recreation specialization)
- Professional member in good standing with Therapeutic Recreation Ontario
- Basic Cardiac Life Support and current certification in First Aid
- Training/experience working with individuals experiencing a serious mental illness and individuals living with a dual diagnosis
- Demonstrated ability to apply the principles of psychosocial rehabilitation in practice
- Ability to foster and promote a recovery-oriented environment
- Demonstrated understanding of community development and collaborative approaches
- Knowledge and application of a strength-based approach to assessment and development of rehabilitation strategies
- Advanced skills in reasoning problem-solving critical thinking decision-making and workload organization
- Advanced communication skills (verbal non-verbal behavioural written therapeutic and social)
- Demonstrated ability to positively contribute to team performance
- Valid Ontario Driver's License access to an acceptable vehicle with adequate insurance
- Demonstrated regular attendance at work and adherence to the St. Joseph's Care Group Principles of Conduct

WHAT YOU BRING

Education/Experience:

  •  Degree/Diploma in Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation and Leisure Studies with therapeutic recreation course content (Therapeutic Recreation specialization)
  • Professional member in good standing with Therapeutic Recreation Ontario

Conditions of Employment:

  • This position shall be conditional upon a satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) where indicated, to ensure the absence of relevant criminal convictions.
  • Offers of employment made to external candidates are conditional upon providing proof of a complete primary series of Health Canada approved mRNA COVID-19 vaccine or proof of valid medical exemption, prior to the offered effective date. If proof of vaccination or valid medical exemption is not provided, the offer of employment is rescinded.
